The Ultimate Office Relocation Checklist

Moving your business is a big undertaking. Use this step-by-step checklist to keep your team productive and your timeline on track.

Moving an office is fundamentally different from moving a home. You have employees to think about, systems to keep running, and a business that can't afford extended downtime. A well-organized checklist is the difference between a smooth transition and a chaotic week.

6 months out. Appoint a relocation project manager. Audit your current lease and notify your landlord. Tour the new space and create a detailed floor plan. Get quotes from at least three commercial moving companies.

3 months out. Notify vendors, clients, and service providers of your new address. Plan your IT infrastructure at the new location. Order new furniture, fixtures, and equipment if needed. Create a communication plan for employees.

1 month out. Pack and label non-essential items early. Coordinate elevator reservations at both buildings. Confirm the move date and timeline with your moving company. Plan for equipment disconnection and reconnection.

1 week out. Back up all data. Ship essential supplies to the new address. Brief employees on the move day schedule. Confirm parking and access at both locations.

Move day. Have your project manager on-site at both locations. Keep a master inventory log. Do a final walkthrough at the old space before handing back keys. Test all systems at the new space before employees arrive.
